Leading HQ I

The following setup sessions serve as an orientation to begin any HighQuest Forum. In the first two sessions, relationships are beginning, information is being digested, the skills for meeting with God are being introduced, and the mechanics of the forum are being understood. Each set up session will in involve: Focus, Content, and Assignment.

Set up Session #A

1. Focus: To connect with the other men and to get an overview of where you are headed in HighQuest.

2. Content:
The following content should be covered during the first meeting.
- Begin with prayer.
- Fill out Forum Members page 3.
- Highlight content from pages 1-14 on the HighQuest mission, life skills and life issues.
- Fill out the Profiles starting on page 128. Each member takes a turn sharing his information with the group. This forms a foundation for the forum to build on during future sessions.

3. Assignment: During the week, each member is to fill out their Spiritual Journey Timeline on page 136 using highs and lows, significant people and events that define their journey. Each man should be prepared to share their story with the group during the next meeting.

Setup Session #B
1. Focus:
To appreciate each person's spiritual journey and understand how to have an Appointment with God (AWG).

2. Content:
The following content should be covered during the second meeting.
- Pray that each man would be able to see the faithfulness and fingerprints of God as they recount their spiritual journey.
- Take turns talking through each person’s timeline. (Due to time restraints, you may need to have some men in the forum share their timelines during the following sessions.)
- Explain an Appointment with God (AWG) from pages 15-20.
- Explain the Check the Map page 21-22
- (You may choose to do a sample AWG together using the first day of Session 1 on page 29.)

3. Assignment
- Read and mark pages 23-25 in the HighQuest book.
- Decide the time and place for your 15 minute daily appointment with God.
- Begin your AWGs using Session 1: God is my Creator on page 28.
- Fill out the Check the Map page 34.

Sessions 1-10 You are now ready to establish the process for the remaining 10 sessions of High Quest I. Use the four questions to start each component of the Forum. The Forum Discussion Guide at the end of each session (i.e. page 35) gives you the questions and a place to take notes. The suggested times below are for an hour session.
- Connection question. (15 minutes) Because we care, what do we need to know? This is an opportunity to get caught up on relevant personal news from the week.
- Exploration question. ( 25 minutes ) Because God's Word is true, what are you discovering? Each man reads what they wrote as a summary on the top part of Check the Map. Then they can refer back to the main passage that spoke to them during the week.
- Application question. ( 10 minutes ) Because God's Word is relevant, what is He telling you to do? Each man can read what they have written regarding their application on the bottom part of Check the Map.
- Intercession question. (10 minutes) Because God cares, how can we support you in prayer? A lot has been shared already that can be prayed about. Other requests can be stated briefly. Spend time in conversational prayer for one another.
It is important that during each forum session that you cover all 4 questions. You can alter the time allocation to fit your group's needs during any given session but insure that you cover all four. The leader should transition from one component to the next but simply asking the next question. Sometimes you will have to stop the conversation in order to move to the next component. It is important for the leader to keep the group on task since the hour will go by rapidly.
